National Baseball Hall of Fame
The National Baseball Hall of Fame & Museum is a not-for-profit
educational institution dedicated to fostering an appreciation
of the historical development of the game and its impact on our
culture by collecting, preserving, exhibiting and interpreting
its collections for a global audience, as well as honoring those
who have made outstanding contributions to our national pastime.
The museum was founded in 1939 on the 100th anniversary of the
invention of the game of baseball in Cooperstown by Abner Doubleday.
The museums National Baseball Library opened in 1968 with
the most extensive collection of archival material devoted exclusively
to baseball in the world.
