Herkimer Cty Community College
The concept of a community college for Herkimer County began at
a meeting of the Civic Club in Dolgeville in 1962. Following a
countywide opinion poll, a proposal was developed and in 1966,
the Board of Trustees of the State University of New York authorized
the Herkimer County Board of Supervisors to sponsor a community
college. The first class entered in the fall of 1967.
Today the campus has expanded across the hillside overlooking
the Village of Herkimer. Their Technology Center and the Robert
McLaughlin College Center include a state-of-the-art media center
and a corporate and professional education center. HCCC currently
has over 2300 students from every county in New York State, many
other states and over 90 international students. Their athletic
teams have won national team titles in basketball, lacrosse, and
soccer.
