Mele Manufacturing
Mele (pronounced "Mee-lee") was founded 1912 in New
York City by Mr. Emidio Mele, an Italian immigrant who designed
and built elaborate window displays for jewelry stores in New
York City. Mr. Mele saw an opportunity to break out on his own
and seek the "American Dream". He formed a company that
created gift boxes for watches, pendants, and other jewelry items
and, subsequently began designing and manufacturing decorative
jewelry boxes as well. Once the business began to take off, Mrs.
Mele joined the company, and the Mele workforce continued to grow.
Emidio Mele's sons, Edward V. Mele, and Joseph Mele took over
the business, and in 1952, Mele moved some of its manufacturing
to a building in Utica, New York that had previously housed a
knit mill. In 1956, Mele Manufacturing relocated once again -
moving its entire operation to its current location at 1712 Erie
Street in Utica, New York.
Mele has designed and manufactured jewelry boxes for over 90 years.
The company has survived two World Wars, the Great Depression,
and every decade since by constantly improving our product line,
listening to our customers, and providing quality jewelry boxes.
Today, Mele Manufacturing is the largest designer and manufacturer
of jewelry boxes in the United States, and we remain a privately-owned
company.
Values such as honesty and integrity are instilled in each and
every Mele employee and sales representative, and these qualities
have enabled us to develop and maintain solid relationships with
retailers and consumers throughout the country.
